Quando era in tour in Europa Costner, che avrebbe dovuto interpretare Anse Hatfield in una storia marchiata dalla leggenda, che si svolge nel West, ha cominciato a suonicchiare qualche canzone coi Modern West. Poi Teddy Morgan ha inventato qualche melodia e, quasi senza volerlo, suono venute fuori le canzoni che compongono questa colonna sonora. 19 canzoni, eseguite da Costner e dai Modern West, con qualche ospite qui e là. Il sapore della storia aleggia nella musica di questo film, un disco decisamente diverso rispetto ai precedenti di Costner con la sua band.
L'idea originaria era quella di fare un gruppo, tutto al femminile, come gli Highwaymen. Infatti questo quartetto, capitanato da Brandi Carlile, comprende anche Amanda Shires, Natalie Hemby, e Maren Morris. Il risultato è un bel disco di country, con la Carlile che dirige il quartetto, ma anche con una manciata di canzoni di tutto rispetto. Il disco country più venduto del momento.
Ultimo disco inciso dalla nota coppia di country men, appena prima della tragica scomparsa di Troy Gentry. Classico rockin' country elettrico.
