Charlie Rich è stato uno dei più grandi, ma anche dei meno considerati, musicisti americani degli ultimi cinquanta anni. Voce formidabile, Rich era un musicista che sapeva convogliare nella sua musica rock e soul, con influenze southern ed anche un tocco di blues. Il tutto condito da una voce formidabile. Purtroppo ci ha lasciato troppo presto e, altrettanto presto, è stato dimenticato. Questo tributo, in cui ci sono musicisti del calibro di Shooter Jennings, Jim Lauderdale, Will Kimbrough, Kevin Connolly, Keith Sykes, Preston Shannon, Susan Marshall, Juliet Simmons, è solo l'inizio di una riscoperta che speriamo, avvenga in tempi abbastanza brevi.

Sconosciuto ai più, almeno al giorno d'oggi, Charlie Rich è uno dei grandi della musica Americana. Si può mettere sullo stesso piano di Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, anche Elvis Presley. Voce formidabile, rocker e countryman, Rich ha attraversato la musica Americana dagli anni cinquanta agli anni novanta. Poi ci ha lasciato improvvisamwente.Rich era anche iun interprete, come mostra in questro album che raccoglie rare registrazioni anni sessanta, dove riprende brani country e blues, tratti dai repertori di gente come Hank Williams ed altri grandi del genere.

Tracks 1 to 12 were originally issued in 1967 as "Charlie Rich Sings Country And Western".

The title originally planned, "Charlie Rich Sings The Songs Of Hank Williams", was objected to by the Hank Williams estate but it was issued under this title in 1974, and in 1977 with the title 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry'.

Tracks 13 to 16 are the A and B sides of non-album singles. The other material was unissued at the time of recording. Tracks 17 to 22 were issued on the Hi/Demon compilation [url=http://www.discogs.com/Charlie-Rich-Ill-Shed-No-Tears-The-Best-Of-The-Hi-Recordings/release/2510289] 'I'll Shed No Tears'[/url], and tracks 23 to 25 are previously unreleased.
