| stevenson`s fascinating novel, published in 1886, deals with the famous topic of the "double",reflecting the strict link between the good and the evil, the civilization and the savagery, the light and the darkness as a symbol of the anxieties of his time. on his weekly walk, mr. utterson, a london lawyer, hears about an horrible assault on a young girl from a mysterious man, mr. hyde. after some time, one of his clients and friend, mr. jekyll, a respectable doctor who is working on a strange potion, decides to write his will asking to transfer all his properties to mr. hyde. the name suddenly reminds mr. utterson to the unpleasant event he had heard of. at this point, he starts to be concerned and becomes more suspicious, thus deciding to investigate about the obscure mr. hyde and his mysterious relation with dr. jekyll. mr. utterson becomes worried that mr. hyde is threatening his friend after discovering that he has access to dr. jekyll`s house and lab, where the doctor leads his personal researches. the relation between the jekyll and hyde seems to be weirder and weirder, inexplicable, and strictly connected to other crimes. |
