Muddy Roads, strade fangose, è un accorato omaggio di David Grisman ad alcuni dei suoi maestri. Doc Watson, in primo luogo, ma anche Clarence Ashley e Ralph Stanley. Grandi musicisti, capostipiti di un genere musicale d'altri tempi, tra folk, country, bluegrass e musica tradizionale. Maestri in assoluto, che hanno ispirato Grisman. Ma anche David è un maestro e questo disco, bello e ben fatto, contiene brani famosi e non, persi nei meandri del tempo, che ora vengono ripresi, in modo che tutti possiamo conoscerli. Brani come: Muddy Roads, The Lone Pilgrim, Walkin' Boss, Handsome Molly, Willie Moore, The Cuckoo Bird,Blue Ridge Mountain Blues, The Roving Gambler ed altre.
