39CD. Iniziato il 18 aprile 1976 a Lakeland, in Florida, e conclusosi a Salt Lake City il 25 maggio 1976, il tour ha compreso ventisette date, quasi tutte rappresentate nei 371 brani inediti. In un’epoca leggendaria e brillante della carriera di Dylan, i nastri del tour rivelano come le sue esibizioni, sempre più intense e travolgenti, culminino nella registrazione completa di Fort Collins del 23 maggio 1976, rimasterizzata dai nastri multitraccia originali, da cui è stato tratto lo speciale *Hard Rain*, trasmesso in diretta solo una volta in precedenza.

La seconda tappa del leggendario tour della Rolling Thunder Revue vide Dylan accogliere nella sua compagnia vecchi amici e collaboratori. Dylan si riunì con Joan Baez per eseguire una serie commovente di duetti in molte date, tra cui le interpretazioni di “Blowin’ in the Wind” e “Railroad Boy”. La band di Dylan comprendeva il bassista Rob Stoner, la violinista Scarlet Rivera, il batterista Howie Wyeth (che avevano tutti collaborato all’album Desire, in vetta alle classifiche), i chitarristi Mick Ronson (degli Spiders from Mars di David Bowie), Steven Soles, David Mansfield e T Bone Burnett.
Burnett ricorda: «La Rolling Thunder Revue è stato il primo tour punk rock a livello nazionale. Ha aperto una porta che ha portato a una furiosa esplosione di nuova musica: i Clash, Elvis Costello, i Ramones, i Sex Pistols e così via. Dylan ci era riuscito ancora una volta. È bravo ad attraversare porte che nessun altro vede nemmeno, porte che gli altri scambiano per muri».
Il cofanetto deluxe da 39 CD comprende 381 brani, 371 dei quali inediti, oltre a un libretto con note di copertina di Mikal Gilmore e fotografie rare. Il cofanetto completo da 3 LP del concerto di Fort Worth comprende 22 brani.
