Booker T. Jones, già leader di Booker T. and The Mg's, ha da tempo intrapreso la sua carriera come solista. Ha inciso diversi dischi a suo nome, senza mai tradire le sue radici. Cosa che fa anche in questo disco, una sorta di companion sonoro della sua imminente biografia, giustamente intitolata Time is Tight. Not by Note ripercorre la sua carriera, tra brani vecchi rivisitati e canzoni composte per l'occasione. Un disco pieno di ospiti, di voci alternative, dove appare anche il figlio di Booker T, Teddy Jones. Altri ospiti: Ayanna Irish, Joshua Ledet, Ty Taylor, Sharlotte GIbson sino a Matt Berninger, voce solista e leader dei National.
