LP, vinile audiofilo 180g. Il 17 dicembre 1947 Art Blakey ha diretto, nella sua prima sessione di registrazione come leader, un gruppo conosciuto come “Art Blakey's Messengers”. Sempre in quel periodo Blakey guidò anche una big band chiamata “Seventeen Messengers”. L'uso del nome “Messengers” si stabilizzò poi con il gruppo co-guidato, in un primo momento, da Blakey e Horace Silver, anche se il nome non venne utilizzato per la loro prima registrazione. La prima formazione stabile dei celebri “Jazz Messengers” di Art Blakey è nata nel 1954 e vedeva la partecipazione di Kenny Dorham, Hank Mobley, Horace Silver e Doug Watkins. Quel gruppo registrò l’LP “The Jazz Messengers at the Bohemia Cafe”, nel novembre del 1955. A quell’album seguì l’LP presentato qui, in cui Donald Byrd sostituiva già Dorham alla tromba. L'album è caratterizzato dalle prime registrazioni di due canzoni di Silver, “Nica's Dream” e “Ecaroh”, e da una buona dose del tipico hard swinging dalla band.

LP, vinile audiofilo 180g. L'album “Moanin'” del 1958 è considerato uno dei migliori album di Art Blakey e i Jazz Messengers. Esso rappresenta il primo album della terza formazione del gruppo che all’epoca vedeva Blakey accompagnato dal trombettista Lee Morgan, dal sassofonista tenore Benny Golson, dal pianista Bobby Timmons e dal bassista Jymie Merritt.
