Già membro dei Civil Wars ( assieme a John Paul White ), Joy Williams ha intrapreso la carriera solista, da qualche anno a questa parte. Ma è con questo disco, dall'aria rurale, che la Williams colpisce nel segno. Front Porch è composto da dodici brani originali di ottimo livello, affrontati come se la protagonista fosse idealmente seduta nel portico di casa sua. Atmosfere acustiche ed intime, brani lenti e meditati in cui Joy si fa accompagnare al massimo da un paio di chitarre, una steel, un violino, un mandolino e un dobro. Buona parte del merito va alla produzione di Kenneth Pattengale (ovvero metà del duo folk-rock The Milk Carton Kids), che si occupa della maggior parte degli strumenti, lasciando la steel nelle sapienti mani di Russ Pahl ed il violino e mandolino in quelle di John Mailander. Pochi strumenti quindi, ma dosati con gusto e misura e, soprattutto, un’attitudine da folksinger da parte della Williams che fa di Front Porch il disco migliore della sua carriera solista.

This is substantially a re-release of the 2002 collection of the same name (TECD037) but it has been updated to include content by Ashley's latest (at the time) band The Rainbow Chasers. Two songs from The Albion Band, the 1981 track 'Galliard / Brawl' and the 2001 track 'Press Gang', were removed to make way for two Rainbow Chasers tracks - otherwise the included tracks are the same.
