Incredibile, ma vero, Blue World è un altro disco inedito, Un disco che John Coltrane ha registrato nel 1964 per la colonna sonora di un film canadese ( Le Chat Dans Le Sac), dopo essere stato avvicinato dal regista. Un disco registrato con il quartetto classico ( McCoyTyner, Jimmy Garrison, Elvin Jones ), dove il maestro rilegge alcuni brani noti, ma in versioni completamente inedite e ci mette anche un inedito assoluto, Blue World. Ma, già per le versioni di Naima, Village Blues e Traening In, il disco sarebbe assolutamente imperdibile. Forse perchè i brani dovevano fare da colonna sonora a delle immagini, John Coltrane ha scelto di suonare in modo raccolto, piacevole, melodico. Un disco che sorprende, piace e si ascolta tutto d'un fiato.

'Mastering this music from the original tapes has uncovered new information that calls for a different arrangement of the tracks from what originally appeared on LP. For the first time, the pieces within each set appear here in the order in which they were performed. Some on-stage chatter between tunes has been left intact, though an analog edit has shortened the time between the two Coltrane pieces, and the pauses between Archie Shepp tracks have been contracted to eliminate empty spaces. Random disturbances from heavy wind gusts and aircraft flying over the outdoor bandstand mask parts of Shepp's performance.'

In quel disco per la prima volta tutti i brani portavano la sua firma e il suo stile personale sembrava ormai completamente sviluppato. “Coltrane Jazz” fu il primo album di Coltrane ad essere pubblicato dopo “Giant Steps” e segnò il passaggio dai suoi primi gruppi sperimentali al suo quartetto classico. L’album successivo ad essere pubblicato, “My Favorite Things”, divenne una pietra miliare della discografia di Trane ed uno dei suoi album più venduti. Anche se è difficile da credere, questo capolavoro del jazz è stato registrato nel 1960 in meno di tre giorni, durante diverse lunghe sessioni di registrazione che hanno prodotto la musica che sarebbe poi confluita nei dischi “Coltrane Plays the Blues”, “Coltrane's Sound” e “Coltrane Legacy”.
