la societa` e` divenuta ormai irreversibilmente pluriculturale, plurietnica e plurireligiosa. per agire da fermento spirituale, culturale e sociale, la chiesa deve porsi in modo nuovo, altrimenti non e` piu` credibile ne` quando annunzia il vangelo, ne` quando combatte a favore dell`uomo e della sua dignita`. giunti al giro di boa dei cinquant`anni dal concilio vaticano ii, per evangelizzare un mondo profondamente cambiato, non resta che proseguire con coraggio la "traversata" lungo la "rotta" segnata chiaramente dal concilio e seguita fedelmente dai "traghettatori". la "traversata" postconciliare e` stata senza dubbio tormentata, resa ancor piu` complessa dai vorticosi cambiamenti sociali, dalle divisioni e dai contrasti che hanno attraversato il mondo cattolico. in questa delicata stagione hanno avuto un ruolo decisivo alcune figure carismatiche che hanno accompagnato la chiesa e la nostra societa` nella transizione al terzo millennio. attingendo ai suoi molti ricordi, pubblici e privati, padre bartolomeo sorge ne delinea un appassionato e intenso ritratto, con l`auspicio che possano essere d`esempio a "una nuova generazione di traghettatori", chiamata a completare il lungo tragitto della chiesa verso le mete indicate dal concilio superando incertezze e stanchezze, senza temere di affrontare situazioni nuove e sfide inedite.

"tutto e` bene quel che finisce bene" e` l`avventura tormentata della bella elena, accolta nella ricca dimora dei conti di rossiglione dopo la morte del padre, uno stimato medico e fedele servitore della prestigiosa casata. ispirandosi liberamente alla nona novella della terza giornata del decameron di boccaccio, shakespeare racconta le intricate peripezie d`amore della giovane elena per bertram, il figlio ed erede del conte, che pero` non intende nemmeno prendere in considerazione l`eventualita` di una relazione con una donna di rango inferiore.

la barriera senza porta (xiii sec.) e` una raccolta di dialoghi fra un maestro e un discepolo, appartenenti alla setta buddhista ch`an. si tratta di una testimonianza di illuminazione in cui le parole del maestro, ispirate ai classici del buddhismo, conducono alla liberazione il discepolo, fornendo materiale di riflessione e meditazione.

messa per la prima volta in scena sul palcoscenico del teatro sant`angelo a venezia nel 1753, "la locandiera" piacque subito molto, anche se forse non riusci` ad affascinare del tutto il pubblico del tempo. originale, spiazzante, giocata su una storia d`amore che non si sviluppa secondo gli schemi consueti, ma anzi li rovescia in un gioco di imprevisti, "la locandiera" era probabilmente troppo "moderna", troppo audace per la sua epoca. piu` che una vicenda sentimentale, il commediografo veneziano aveva infatti scritto una storia sull`egoismo e sulla forza di carattere, magnificamente rappresentati nella seducente e sicura mirandolina, civetta e donna d`affari, indimenticabile e luminoso esempio di un eterno femminino davanti al quale devono crollare tutte le difese degli uomini, anche e soprattutto di quelli che fanno sfoggio di un`esasperata misoginia. postfazione di giorgio strehler.
