Registrato nel 1982, dopo essersi spostata a Parigi, Fodder On My Wings è stato uno dei dischi meno noti, ma anche preferiti, di Nina Simone. Pubblicato da una piccola etichetta francese e quasi introvabile, sin dalla sua pubblicazione,viene finalmente reso disponibile dalla Verve, via Universal. Potenziato con tre canzoni, che non erano sulla prima versione, Fodder On My Wings è un classico album della cantante di colore un disco che ha aiutato non poco la grande musicista. Infatti è stato pubblicato proprio mentre la cantante stava vivendo una seconda giovinezza, grazie al fatto di essere riscoperta sopratutto da una serie di musicisti Africani, da quando si trovava in Francia, paese che la aveva, letteralmente, adottata.

Tributo a Nina Simone: cinque canzoni sono interpretate da Lauryn Hill. Il resto da Lisa Simone, Jazmine Sullivan, Usher, Mary J Blige, Gregory Porter, Alice Smith ed altri. Chiude il tutto I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free interpretata dalla stessa Nina Simone.
