Una super band che, partendo dal recente disco di Scoflied, Country for the Old Men, costruisce un album sui generis.Infatti il disco è un omaggio al fiume Hudson ed alla musica che è nata attorno a questo storico fiume che scorre dal Canada a New York. Ci sono canzoni di Bob Dylan (Lay Lady Lay, A Hard Rain A-Gonna Fall) The Band ( Up on Cripple Creek), Joni Mitchell ( Woodstock) ed altre legate a quei luoghi.

La stella dell'incomparabile trombettista Clifford Brown stava appena iniziando a brillare quando registrò due sessioni come leader per la Blue Note nel 1953 - una in quintetto co-diretta con il sassofonista contralto Lou Donaldson, e una in sestetto a suo nome - che furono poi raccolte nel 12" LP Memorial Album (BLP 1526) poco dopo la sua tragica morte in un incidente stradale nel 1956. Il lato 1 presenta il sestetto con il sassofonista contralto Gigi Gryce, il sassofonista tenore Charlie Rouse, il pianista John Lewis, il bassista Percy Heath e il batterista Art Blakey in una versione travolgente di “Cherokee”, la splendida ballata “Easy Living” e il tema bebop di Quincy Jones “Wail Bait”. Il lato 2 vede il Donaldson-Brown Quintet con Heath al basso, Elmo Hope al pianoforte e Philly Joe Jones alla batteria cimentarsi in un set che include il vivace brano originale di Brown “Brownie Speaks”, il groovy “De-Dah” di Hope e la splendida ballata “You Go To My Head”.
