Verve presenta la colonna sonora del documentario biografico diretto da James Erskine, in cui la drammatica esistenza della grande voce del jazz è narrata in stile noir, sulla base di nastri inediti in cui la giornalista Linda Lipnack Kuehl nel 1970 raccolse le testimonianze di tanti personaggi che popolarono la vita tumultuosa di Billie Holiday (compresi gli agenti dell'FBI che la arrestarono...). Ma con la scomparsa repentina della giornalista, i nastri rimasero inascoltati per quasi 50 anni.Il disco contiene incisioni storiche (come il celebre atto di accusa contro il linciaggio "Strange Fruit", prima vera canzone di protesta contro la violenza sulla popolazione neroamericana, purtroppo ancora oggi attuale) e due brani strumentali realizzati appositamente per la colonna sonora
