Splendido lavoro di musica contemporanea, tra jazz ed musica improvvisata. Jarrett esegue il paino concerto opera 38 di Samuel Barber, il piano concerto n 3 di Bela Bartok. La terza parte parte è un concerto inedito, registrato a Tokyo nel 1985, dove Keith improvvisa su una sua composzione. Nelle due partiture contemporanee Jarrett è accompagnato da due orchestre diverse.

Il geniale pianista bebop Bud Powell ha realizzato le sue registrazioni più durature come leader per la Blue Note ed è stato un catalizzatore per il passaggio dell'etichetta dall'hot jazz su cui era stata fondata alla musica moderna prodotta da Powell, Thelonious Monk, Fats Navarro e altri. Le sessioni del quintetto e del trio di Powell del 1949 e del 1951 furono pubblicate per la prima volta nel 1952 come LP da 10 pollici The Amazing Bud Powell, e successivamente ampliate come The Amazing Bud Powell, Vol. 1 (BLP 1503) quando la Blue Note passò al LP da 12 pollici e lanciò la serie 1500 nel 1955.
